Welcome
ICAE 2018 Conference

The International Association of Agricultural Economists (IAAE) is a worldwide association of agricultural economists and others concerned with agricultural economic problems, including problems related to the use of renewable resources and the environment. Its broad goal is to make a difference through:

  • Fostering the application of agricultural economics to improve rural economic and social conditions.
  • Advancing knowledge of agriculture's economic organization.
  • Facilitating communication and information exchange among those concerned with rural welfare.

The IAAE flagship conference – International Conference of Agricultural Economists (ICAE) – is held every three years and attracts about a thousand colleagues from around the world. The 30th conference will take place on Canada's West Coast, in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia, July 28 - August 2, 2018.

SPEAKERS’ INSTRUCTIONS

  • There are six 2-hour parallel sessions on the program. In these sessions there will be 12 rooms dedicated to Oral Contributed papers, six rooms to Organized Sessions and four rooms to Visual Contributed papers.
  • There are also two shorter parallel sessions where there are either only Oral Contributed Papers (Session 4) or 12 Oral Contributed paper sessions plus four Organized Sessions (Session 8).

Oral sessions

  • Each presenter has a total of 20 minutes, so the more time the presenter takes, the less time will be available for the Question and Answer session. Please aim to talk for no longer than 15 minutes to leave enough time for discussion.
  • A good guide for PowerPoint slides: aim to talk for 2 minutes per slide and include no more than 4 points on each slide
  • The chairperson of each session will be the presenter of the last paper in that session, so s/he will keep you to your time very strictly!

Visual sessions

  • These presentations will take place in four separate rooms, and each room will be equipped with an interactive monitor.
  • In each 2 hour session up to 15 papers will be presented, i.e. you will have at least 8 minutes for your presentation. The Chair of the session will know how many presentations there are in that session, and will limit the time for each accordingly. For example, if there are only 10 papers, each presentation can take 12 minutes.
  • In each case this time includes the Question and Answer session.
  • The monitors are the size of a large-screen TV so that a group of 15-20 people standing around it can all see properly if you design your slides properly.
  • The presenters of these papers are asked to prepare a PowerPoint presentation of up to 3-5 slides. Note however, that the monitors will be pre-loaded with all of the visual presentations, and will be available throughout the conference so presenters can also arrange their own presentations to smaller groups as and when they wish.
  • The chairperson of each session will be the presenter of the last paper in that session, so s/he will keep you to your time very strictly!

Uploading your presentation
  • The Speakers’ Ready Area will be located across from the Registration desk on the Lobby Level.
  • All Presenters for Plenary, Invited Panels, Organized Symposia and Contributed Papers should visit this area at least two hours prior to the start of their session to upload their presentation to the network and to organize their materials. For sessions that commence at 0800 hours, speakers are required to upload their presentation the day before whenever possible. Technicians will be on hand in this area should speakers have any questions or require assistance.

All e-poster presenters will be sent an email with instructions on how to upload their presentation to the e-poster kiosk.
